Auto insurance in California

Some drivers understand the benefits of auto insurance, but because of their financial situation cannot even afford minimum coverage. For individuals in California in this group, there is a great program for cheap car insurance called the Low Cost Auto Insurance Program. This program makes coverage affordable to those who can meet the requirements.

Pricing for auto insurance is set by your many things including your driving record, location, and the particular car you drive. If you drive recklessly, more than likely, you’ll be paying a higher premium than the person who has a clean driving record. Including your car, you can control that portion of your auto insurance premium. The factor that is sometimes out of your control, is your location. If an area has high traffic, it’s usually a sign of more accidents and, potentially, higher crime, making an auto insurance company will rate it with a higher risk. The California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program helps safe drivers purchase insurance in these areas.

If you’re safe on the road and and still can’t afford insurance this program can help. Laws are in place in California to assist all drivers to obtain proper coverage.

Who Can Get Low Cost Auto Insurance?
All drivers who are over 19 years old are not in college and claimed as a dependent by another person. The applicant must have had their driver’s license for at least three years solid and must not have over one point on their official state driving record and been in no more than one accident. Additional requirements state that no person charged with a felony or misdemeanor be allowed into the program.

Income is also another factor for the low cost auto insurance program. If you live in a household of four, the combined income must not exceed $55,125 a year and households with eight people may not make over $92,525 to qualify. Eligibility is based on the household’s gross annual income which must be over 250% or less of the federal poverty level.

Coverage
The limits for bodily injury are $10,000 with $20,000 combined and $3,000 for property damage liability (10/20/3).
